April camp is a highlight of each year — cooking over open fires, staying in canvas tents and having lots of adventures.
Britannia Sea Scouts camp normally happens each year in the April school holidays. We go camping in places like Pirinoa in South Wairarapa or Danniverke in Central Hawkes Bay. We stay in big old canvas tents, and cook our own meals over an open fire. Usually we camp for about 7 or 8 days, Venturers and Scouts stay for the whole time while Cubs might come for a few days. We normally camp in a field near a farm with a river, and sometimes go for a swim!
Some of the activities we do are: Taskmasters, a bonfire, marshmallows, making bivouacs and construction competitions. The senior Scouts and Venturers go on an overnight camp by themselves. We make our own dining shelters and put up the tents on the first day, then we begin to make the firepits. Last year it rained lots and there was lots of mud, so some people had a mud fight! I had lots of fun hanging out with my friends and doing all the fun activities, I think camp is an awesome experience!
